Emissions from landfills
Management of waste is a global environmental problem. In Italy, in particular, the production of urban waste in the last years is constantly increasing (Rapporto Rifiuti 2005, APAT-ONR) and it has exceeded 500 kg per inhabitant per year. Part of the waste is stored in landfills, with consequences on several environmental aspects: landscape, soil, ground, atmosphere, etc.
Enviroware deals with the atmospheric impact of landfills. Enviroware has the capabilities and the software tools to estimate, applying internationally recognised algorithms, the atmospheric emissions of gases emitted from landfills: methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOC). These gases are noxious for the environment for a number reasons: they are flammable (methane), they are responsible for the greenhouse effect (methane and carbon dioxide), they can generate disturbing odours, as some of the VOCs. |

Concerning the olfactive impact, the software tools used by Enviroware are able to determine the single organic compounds contained in the emitted VOCs, and to individuate the ones most responsible for this impact starting from their olfactive threshold.
